a quick word, before you fill it out
- what this actually is
- gold asks you to pay attention across 38 objectives, gather small pieces of evidence as they happen, and rate each child three times a year. the objectives cover the whole child: social-emotional, language, physical, cognitive, literacy, math, and more. a two-sentence note with a date counts. a photo with a caption counts. you are not writing essays.
- why it gets asked of you
- a lot of programs (many head start grantees, plenty of state pre-k, most centers on the ts platform) chose gold as their assessment of record. once a program picks it, checkpoints become part of the year the way parent-teacher conferences are. the deadlines feel intense in the two weeks before a window closes. everyone survives it.
- who it is really for
- for you, gold tells you what small skills to plan for next. for the family, the colored bands show a child's growth without any judgment attached. for the program, it is the aggregate report funders and accreditors ask to see.
